Infrastructure investment

Transport is a major contributor to economic outcomes. The transport sector represents 4.4 percent of GDP, and almost half of Australia’s major infrastructure construction is undertaken within the transport sector.

Investment in and delivery of publicly owned transport infrastructure is the responsibility of all three levels of government. The Australian Government has committed over $75 billion for the next 10 years to transport infrastructure across Australia. This investment is assisting in building more liveable cities, enabling better-connected regional communities, driving key productivity improvements and creating safer roads.

Victorian Government

Expand and upgrade the Geelong Hospital by 64 beds in order to increase capacity to provide cancer care, palliative care and care for older patients with complex needs. Improved cancer services will include a supportive cancer centre. The implementation of contemporary and improved models of care will also enable improved access to services for the people in the Barwon - South West region. The Commonwealth Government will contribute to this initiative as part of the Regional Cancer Centre initiative. NICS is indicating that tenders are now open as the date provided by the jurisdiction for the major approach to market is 2012. It may be that tenders are yet to be released. New South Wales Government

The Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre (NCCC) will provide best-practice in the treatment of people with cancer. The centre will co-locate ambulatory, outpatient and radiotherapy services currently spread across eight sites into one centralised building. The Scientia Clinical Research (SCR) will provide a world class facility for a range of services, including clinical trials in cancer. Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network expansion will provide research space as well as adolescent, genetics and clinical support services.

Bruce Highway Upgrade - (Vantassel to Cluden)

Queensland Government

This project will duplicate an existing 7.5km two-lane section of the Bruce Highway to four lanes, between Vantassel Street and Stuart Drive (Cluden). The project includes the construction of a rail overpass of the North Coast and Mount Isa rail lines at Cluden, as well as capacity and safety improvements to several intersections. The project will improve safety, capacity, freight efficiency and flood immunity on the Bruce Highway at the southern approach to Townsville.

New South Wales Government

The Dubbo Base Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1 and 2 will secure Dubbo Hospital as the major referral centre and acute care hospital for specialty services to meet the growing demands in the Dubbo and surrounding areas. The $91.3 million project is funded by $84.2 million from the NSW Government and $7.1 million from the Australian Government's Health and Hospitals Fund (HHF).

Monash Children's Hospital (MCH) is to be a purpose built paediatric facility at Monash Medical Centre Clayton. This development will provide specialist acute children's health services in a child and family friendly environment. The new facility will deliver tertiary paediatric services that will meet increases in demand and improve access for the growing paediatric population in the south-east of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and south-east Victoria.

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) Redevelopment is designed to meet the expected increase in demand for age-related eye and ear conditions and associated research. The initiative includes a mix of new and upgraded accommodation within the existing external structures of the RVEEH, some expansion for specific clinical services and a full upgrade of the hospital's engineering services infrastructre and plant.
